  • The term cacao is derived from Mesoamérican practice of making a cacao drink, which was revered as the fruit of the Gods. Recently, anthropologists discovered traces of cocoa on ancient pottery suggesting it was first used by communities living in the rainforests between Ecuador and Peru around 5,300 years ago.
  • Pure cacao has high amounts of antioxidants, flavonoids as well as iron, magnesium and other minerals. This superfood especially promotes cardiovascular health and overall wellbeing. Cacao contains small amounts of caffeine and is packed with theobromine, which provides sustained energy and focus, while also relaxing the nervous system.
  • We work with farmers to grow ancestral, criollo cacao varieties through a regenerative village hub that helps farmers work collectively to plant native trees . Through expanding the cultivation syntropic agroforestry across the region, farmers can grow ancestral cacao as part of a food forest and transition away from monoculture farming. This results in the highest quality beans that nourish consumers, farmers anand the forest alike . Native varieties of criollo cacao are sought after for their rich flavor.
  • Our cacao is fermented for 7 to 8 days until it reaches 70% humidity , then sun dried to bring out its full flavor profile and bioavailability.
  • Every harvest is tested for heavy metals and chemical contaminants and compliant with FDA food safety standards.
  • Cacao is lightly roasted and ground in small batches for optimal flavor and freshness.
  • We source our cacao through direct trade with small farms that make up a farming cooperative. Through this approach, farmers earn significantly higher profits than in commodity markets and connect with resources to improve the resiliency of their farms and livelihoods.
